What is home healthcare?
Home healthcare are services offered through a home health agency which may include skilled nursing services, therapy services (physical, occupational and speech), social services and support services through home health aides. Patients usually benefit from home healthcare during situations that involve lengthened hospitalization or confinement to a nursing home. With home healthcare, services are provided to the patient in their own homes with guidance and recommendation from the primary physician.

How do I choose the right home healthcare provider for me?
Making this decision is critical. Before deciding, you will need to consider: (1) types of services required by your physician, (2) licenses obtained by the home healthcare agency/provider, certifications and accreditations achieved by the agency and other 3rd party awarded credentials, and (3) staff interview and evaluation - you will need to check the caregiver's skills, education and training prior to hiring them.

Does Medicare have requirements for home care services?
Yes. To qualify for full coverage of the physician required home health services, you must be considered Homebound. Being homebound means you are unable to leave your home. If in case you need to go out, it would be done with excessive struggle. Going out of the house is rarely done and will need the assistance of another person like a family member or caregiver. However, if you have scheduled appointments with your doctor or therapist, leaving home will not disqualify you from being homebound.
